Court allows addition of Samsung Galaxy S3, Apple iPhone 5 to the on-going lawsuit

The on-going Apple vs. Samsung lawsuit has just gotten bigger as US District Court of San Jose, California has officially allowed both parties to add more products to the famous patent dispute.

Magistrate Judge Paul Grewal ruled that both Apple and Samsung are permitted to add more products their respective patent infringement lawsuits. As a result, both heavyweight tech giants have added each other's best-selling products to the list. Yes, that include Apple's latest iPhone 5, Samsung's (and the world's, for Q3 at-least) best-selling Android phone Galaxy S3 and the Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet.

In a brief statement to Reuters, Samsung said:

"We have little choice but to take the steps necessary to protect our innovations and intellectual property rights."

The lawsuit was originally filed by Apple claiming infringement of several of its patents by Samsung. After addition of the aforementioned new products, both corporations can seek to have each other's products banned for sale across the US until the trial formally begins in 2014.

Reuters noted:

"Apple did not oppose adding the iPhone5. Nevertheless, Grewal warned Apple to 'think twice before opposing similar amendments reflecting other newly released products ? e.g. the iPad 4 and iPad mini ? that Samsung may propose in the near future'."
