Question: Does gold lose value if it is melted down?
I am thinking about investing in physical gold. I was also thinking about melting it down to make other things. does this make the gold lose any value?

It depends on what form it?s in before you melt it. A 1933 Saint-Gaudens double eagle gold coin sold for $ 7.5 million in 2002. If you took that coin and melted it down, you?d get a couple hundred bucks for it.
In a more realistic example: If you take a lump of gold and turn it into beautiful jewelry, you could sell it for more than the value of the gold alone. If you take a beautiful gold necklace and melt it down into a lump of gold, you probably can?t sell it for as much as the necklace was worth.
